Description
Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’ is a selected form of Small Leaved lime. It was introduced from America in 1961 and has become a popular tree. It has taken over form the Common Lime as the tree tomplant as it is less susceptable to Aphids and hence the sticky Honeydeww that you get with Common Lime in the later Summer months.
The Leaves are heart-shaoed and between 5 and 7.5cm long and are a nice glossy mid green colour.
It is a native of most of Europe and the British Isles, predominently England and Wales moslty in areas of Limestone or Limey soils. It has a high tolerance for dry soils and a low tolerance of wet soils so best planted in a well drained soil.
Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’ was given an Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society in 1961.
